There’s something apropos about a player being on a heater … in August … in Memphis. That certainly describes what’s going on with Lucas Glover, who before winning last week’s Wyndham Championship was on the outside looking in for the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs. But a victory in Greensboro, N.C., extended the 43-year-old’s season another week, and rounds of 66-64-66-69 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship before topping Patrick Cantlay in a playoff have him eyeing a deep playoff run.

It also puts him squarely on U.S. Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson's radar.

Glover and Cantlay returned to the par-4 18th hole for the playoff but Cantlay hit his drive into the water left of the fairway. Glover hit the fairway and the green and two-putted for par. Cantlay missed his par attempt and handed Glover the victory. Glover moved to fourth in the FedEx Cup standings and Cantlay is fifth. Both are essentially guaranteed a spot in the top 30 who will play in the Tour Championship in two weeks at East Lake. He’ll also guarantee being in the top 50, which means automatic qualifying into the PGA Tour’s high-stakes “signature” events in 2024.

Rory McIlroy, who tied for third place with Tommy Fleetwood is third in FedEx Cup standings. Jon Rahm remains first despite tying for 37th place at TPC Southwind.

Glover's victory earned him $3.6 million from a $20 million purse for his sixth career PGA Tour victory. Here's the prize money payout for each golfer competing this week at TPC Southwind.

The Ron Prichard design (with consultation from Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller) has hosted an event on the PGA Tour since 1989, and starting in 2022, it hosts one of the premier events on the PGA Tour schedule, the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Located about a half hour from downtown Memphis on an old dairy farm, TPC Southwind holds its own against the best players in the game with water coming into play on 11 holes. The par-3 11th hole is perhaps the course's signature hole, featuring a peninsula green that requires a short iron, similar to the 17th at TPC Sawgrass' Stadium course. The hole will be memorable for anyone who watched the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, when Will Zalatoris' tee shot ended up staying dry and wedging itself between the grass, in his playoff victory over Sepp Straka.
